Renewable Fuels for a Sustainable Future
Biodiesel is a non-toxic, biodegradable fuel made from vegetable oil and can be used in an unmodified diesel engine. Compared to petro-diesel, burning biodiesel results in reduced greenhouse gas emissions. Biodiesel is a good lubricant and has a higher cetane number than petro-diesel; it burns cleanly and efficiently, which reduces toxic emissions dramatically.
It's Local.
Whilst vegetable oil is not produced in quantity on Vancouver Island, Canola Oil is produced in massive quantities in Canada. A large amount arrives on the island and goes through restaurant deep fryers. After a few days of use it becomes contaminated and must be disposed of.
That's where we come in. Waste vegetable oil is our starting point. The waste oil is processed into a clean, standard product that replaces petro-diesel fuel. Fresh and waste oils from multiple sources can be simultaneously processed in order to arrive at the same quality product.
